Minor Disruption Gets under way

Minor Disruption gets underway in style on day 1

With 15ft swell hitting every beach on the north coast of cornwall,Contest directors had already made the decision on friday that the contest would be held at Towan beach .Contest control set up in the blue reef aquarium. As the event site was being set up by the orginizers there was a buzz in the air coming from the surfers ,cause for these,it was the first time that friends and family could watch them compete live online,no matter where they lived .

With a huge PA system everyone heard the distintive voice of our commentator Anton Roberts clearing the freesurfers and calling heat 1 to check in with the beach marshal ready to start the contest.14 & unders were in first and with the droping tide we watched the best talent from brittan fight it out in 20 minute heats .Heat 1 saw Max Payne taking 1st and advancing to round 3 whilst Angus Scotney 2nd and Nathaniel James 3rd advancing with a  no loser round meaning that they would be surfing in round 2.From there on it was the normal suspects taking down the heats ,Liam Turner,Harry Timson,Miles Lee Hargreaves and Dale Foster advancing to round 3,leaving all of the other competitors to surf in round 2.The highest single wave score came from Liam Turner 6.6 with a repertoire of tight snaps off the top and a close out re-entry.

Next up was the 16 & under Tassy Swallow the only girl in the division coming 2nd taking down Ben Bennet but lucky for Ben he moves to round 2 and Luke Dillon coming out on top form took 1st..With all the heats stacked right up every heat was so close just a few points seperated the surfers.Harry Timson,Dom Savage,Lloyd Piper,Jobe Harriss,Max Tucker,Patrick Daniels and miles lee hargreaves taking the Express route to round 3,leaving the rest of the field now to surf in round 2 to stay in the contest.Young Jobe Harriss had the highest wave of the day with 6.8 in heat 3.

Once the tide hit dead low,Towan wasnt quite as sheltered from the swell and wind, Contest directors were forced to have a 45 min waiting period after 14 & Under Round2 Heat 1surfers took a battering with 4-5ft Newquay Bay Close Outs. With almost an hour lost the only decision left was to surf the 2 remaining heats of the 14's and with no way of finishing the 16's it would have to wait till Sunday.
