The ILES-USIONS: Self sufficiency and coconuts

They are well prepared, carrying 160kg of equipment (including solar panels, surfboards, hammocks, one pan and two hens). By hitchhiking canoe lifts, Aurelien, Ewen and Ronan go from island to island in search of one that can support them for an indefinite amount of time.

Having found the ideal island, the adventurers set up a makeshift camp. They quickly adapt to their new lifestyle which involves fishing, coconuts, storms and drenched hammocks. Daily chores supply the basic necessities but often inhibit the surf sessions. How will these long-time friends and surfers react in such a situation?

Follow their adventure every week
With the help of solar panels Ronan was able to film the whole adventure, which is being released online. Every Tuesday and Thursday, a new three minute episode will be released. There will be 10 episodes; therefore the series will run for 5 weeks. In the meantime you can check out the trailer. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the occasional bonus videos.

Two great surfers and a well known cameraman
Aurélien Jacob and Ewen Le Goff are some of the most famous surfers in Brittany, having featured in numerous surf magazines. They roam the seas in quest of new waves and new sensations. Their passports are full of visas from all over the world!

Having grown up together, Ronan Gladu has been photographing and filming them for years. With Aurel and Ewen starring, he released the first film on surf in Brittany; Barravel. The film, which was shared on social networks, received considerable attention from surfers and Bretons alike.

In partnership with Surfrider Foundation Europe, the Première will be in Brest, on Saturday the 17th of September 2011.

Where’s Sancho? Lombok I think…

Got three minutes and twelve seconds to spare? This wee vid from Pietro l. Franca, featuring surfers Benjamin Sanchis and Kalani Chapman, is well worth the distraction. Lombok’s Desert Point has been voted Best Wave in the World, and after the first few barrels on this nice little HD clip, you’ll see why. There’s even some slo-mo Indo kids to keep you smiling.

Enjoy.

Wavegarden makes me want to procreate

The only wave pool I’ve been in is the deep end at Crown Pools in Ipswich, and there’s certainly nothing worth paddling for there.

But right now everyone seems to be shouting about mechanical waves in some way or another, there’s that one in Japan I can’t be arsed to Google, Kelly Slater has been on the bedtime Gorgonzola and has conjured up some magic water donut for rich yanks to carve up, and now a Northern Spain based company has come up this with gloriously filled bin-bag-in-country-side magic puddle, and called it Wavegarden.

Sod surfing, that video makes me want to go and start churning out beautiful little surfing children pretty much right now. I’m off to paint the spare room blue.

Looks fun though…
