Located next to Newquay’s harbour within 200m of the town centre. Towan is the most sheltered beach in or around Newquay and hence receives less swell than all the other surrounding beaches. The Towan headland offers some protection from westerly and south westerly winds. If Fistral is big or blown out you may find a rideable wave here. The best time to surf in the Bay is mid tide; at high tide you get a backwash from the rocks and at low tide you get the infamous Bay close out.
